The result of questionnaires.

Nov. 23, 1999

1)The number of participants
2)The contents of the questionnaires
3)The result and comment of the questionnaires

1)The number of participants
144 schoolchildren participated by the training for 7 hours.
The girl's number of participants had exceeded the boy.
The number of participants which totaled the fourth, the fifth, and the sixth grader is 70% of the whole. That there were many the fifth and the sixth grader's participants was estimated that it was significant in the field of a learning effect.
2)The contents of the questionnaires The heart and the lung for the learning of elementary children

The questionnaire survey was conducted by the following contents.

・Elementary school name ・Grade ・(Boy・Girl)
(1)

Was it good to participate in this on-site training?
Yes・No

(2)
Please number the interesting order
1、Hear the sound of the heart
2、See the heart by echocardiography
3、Measure the blood pressure
4、Inspect with an electrocardiogram.
(3)

Did you understand that the sound of the heart which is heard as Dokun-Dokun, is made when the valve in the heart closes?
Yes・No

(4)

Did you understand that the pulse is used in order to measure blood pressure?
Yes・No

(5)

Did you understand that electricity is flowing in the muscles of the heart?

Yes・No

(6)

Did you understand the motion of the heart by the echocardiography?
That is, the atrium on the right receives the blood which came from all the corners of the body. After that, the right ventricle sends the blood to a lung.
The atrium on the left receives the blood from a lung, and the left ventricle sends the blood to the body. And both atriums and ventricles shrink and swell in the same rhythm, respectively.
Yes・No

(7)

A lung takes oxygen in the air into blood, and is taking out the carbon dioxide in blood into the air. Did you understand it?
Yes・No

(8)

Please write whatever you like.

3)The result and comments of the questionnaires
(1)

All the members participated in on-site training answered that it was good. This was the greatest result.

(2)

"Measuring blood pressure", and "The sound of the heart is heard" were popular.
It seemed that they were not so interested in an echocardiography and an electrocardiogram.
Is judging by hearing more interesting to a child than by vision?

(3)

It seemed that it has been understood for the valve of the heart to open and close that the sound of the heart could be heard twice continuously.

(4)

About blood pressure, we thought that it was easy to understand the measurement principle of blood pressure since they understood the place with which a pulse touches and blood pressure was mutually measured by students.

(5)

It seemed that they were not able to understand that electricity was flowing into the heart.

(6)

Nine upper-classes students were not able to understand in the plan which lets them understand the flow of the blood in the heart by echocardiography. It seemed that it was since an inspection was not completed, and the whole flow for letting them learn was indefinite. That is, it seemed that they could understand if we guided the students by a flow from a pulse, blood pressure, an electrocardiogram, and to a cardiac echo.

(7)

It seemed that they understood the physiology of the lung in general.
This time, carbon dioxide was blown and sent into the calcium hydroxide liquid, and expiration gas was blown and sent into it as well. It showed that it became muddy white respectively, and indicated the existence of carbon dioxide.
Moreover, we let them observe that oxygen was blown and sent into the vitro venous blood, and the black venous blood changed to red. It seemed that this time was the first time for them to understand that the color of arterial blood is bright red although it seemed they already knew that blood is slightly dark-red. In order to let them understand why the color of arterial blood becomes red, hemoglobin was made to observe under a microscope. It seemed that however, it was not enough explanation of becoming red.
